"From the very first lesson I was amazed at Grigory's unending patience and total focus on my son, which was contagious-  I couldn't believe a 3-year-old would so happily and eagerly sit still for an hour, but Grigory's creative and fun approach to the work totally engaged my son, while Grigory's belief in him and expectation that he would succeed made Bleecker excited to learn and eager to come each week to show off his progress. Bleecker has been studying for less than a year and already, at just 4, he can play complicated songs using both hands with multiple octaves, playing chords and harmonies, and he is so proud of himself when he plays something well- he just beams. Greg is such an amazing and one-of-a-kind teacher- his love for his work is apparent in his commitment to his students, and their love of him and of their work together is apparent in the sea of smiling, eager faces that fill the seats at each recital."

I am an adult learner who has been instructed by many piano teachers over the last 30 years including college faculty piano professors, during my college years, and a steady string of “professional” private instructors.  Having achieved only marginal results,  I  actually quite playing for an extended period.  Then I met Grigory Gourylev.  Let me tell you something, he’s absolutely the best teacher I’ve ever met.  Do you suffer from an injury or strain?  Under Grigory’s instruction, you will learn how to use your hands, fingers, elbows, shoulders, and body weight correctly that will give your music a fluid and pleasing sound—and you’ll do it effortlessly and pain free regardless of how simple or complex the piece may be.  Do you need to improve your sight reading ability?  Grigory is an excellent sight reader and will show you specific strategies you can immediately employ that will improve your own.  Are you simply a beginner and don’t know where to start?  Grigory is the most patient, technically proficient, understanding yet results oriented teacher you’ll ever find.  Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate or advanced player, Grigory will help you achieve your goal.  He’s the best I’ve ever seen.

Dear Friend,
I have been watching your video on Youtube and was very impressed, as I was a piano professor in
France for many years. The little three year old boy was quite amazing and I confess that I had never seen or heard a three year old child play something coherent at the piano. I know it has been done but certainly not frequently. I was also impressed by the eleven years old girl who played the Finale of Beethoven's first Sonata at the right tempo....and a minimum of small digital "accidents". I would be very interested to have more information on these pupils and, if possible, more videos.
I think your work is as useful as it is brilliant.
Best friendly regards
Patrick ( from
France )

"Grigory uses a balanced combination of theory and practice -- he has developed fun exercises to learn the theory which I suspect work particularly well for children, but quite frankly, the exercises work wonders for me as well.  I highly recommend Grigory as he is supportive and patient but at the same time will challenge the student to give his or her very best performance"

Mr. Gourylev is a patient and dedicated teacher who helps your child progress in piano at a steady pace.  The piano as an instrument can be intimidating to young children, but Mr. Gourylev teaches them to play simple, pleasant pieces almost immediately - a process that is particularly encouraging for the beginning student.  My son does not mind practicing regularly because the songs are fun and manageable and it is a pleasure to hear him play.  I would recommend Mr. Gourylev to anyone seeking a kind yet highly professional piano teacher for their child.

"We have known Gregory for about 3 years now. Both my son (4) and daughter (9) have benefited considerably due to his professional teaching style. He also has a very pleasant personality and my kids are very happy interacting with him. Unlike other teachers before (for my daughter) who rushed through music lessons to finish up a book or curicullum etc. Gregory takes the time to explain and truly make sure all nuances are learnt. He is also very flexible and understanding about family schedules and often works around those nicely. The quartely recitals with all his students are very nicely conducted and gives a chance for the students to perform in a formal setup."

Greg,

I wanted to say hello with hopes that things are finding a balance for you.  The children miss you and Beth misses your style of teaching; actually we all miss you in our respective ways.

The children are maintaining their practice regiments with weekly classes on Monday evenings.  The new teacher, while I am sure competent, maintains a different rapport with them.  I fear that if he does not find a bridge (forgive the pun) between Beths expectations and his results, we will be back on the search for a new teacher.  Nothing is easy!

The temperatures of late are keeping the pace of things around here a little slower.  Every time I think it is hot, I am reminded of life in the City this time of year.  Hopefully you are finding hamlets of cool and not getting cooked outside in the streets of the city!

All for now,

With best regards,

Bruce.

"My two kids and I have been taking piano lessons with Mr. G for the last two years and it has been a great experience for all of us.   He has really taken the time to get to know us and select pieces of music that resonate with each of us as individuals.  He is a patient and enthusiastic teacher who uses a vareity of  games and finger puzzles to hold even the attention of my four year old!  We love our piano lessons!"

Mr. G began teaching my daughter Savannah at the tender age of 3.  She is now six years old and can play a variety of songs including complex classic music.  From the very beginning, Mr. G has shown extraordinary patience and confidence in her ability to play the piano.  Within no time, she was able to read notes and play with two hands!  Mr. G 's enthusiasm for his work has made her not only love her lessons but grow and learn at a very fast pace.  Hearing her practice and play music so well- is the best reward any parent can ask for!  Mr. G's pleasant, caring and professional attitude has earned him a place as an integral part of our family and we will forever be indebted to him for teaching my daughter the art of music!!!

Hello Grigory Gourylev,

My name is Jennifer Hong and I am the program coordinator and Gracias Music at Mahanaim. We are currently hoping to start a music program for kids on Saturday's.  We want it to be a quality music program like the programs at St. Petersburg Conservatory.  We are accepting kids from ages 5 and up.  Would you be able to join us in our endeavor to nurture good music and good musicians who can spread beautiful music?  It interests me that you've studied in St. Petersburg and that you teach proper weight, fingering, and body use.
Our teachers who come hear twice a year to teach our older students through masterclasses and enhancement courses teach the same.  They are professors from St. Petersburg conservatory who come and teach.  They are very strict and precise.  A simple touch is not a touch, but it has to be the right touch.  That is how I want our children to learn.  I want them to learn the proper way to press a key on the piano, and not just to play.  I know you may be busy with your studio and private lessons, but would you be willing to help us out?

Thank You!

Jennifer Hong
